Are you leaving $$$ in their pockets?

Nothing upsets me more than salespeople and business owners who make assumptions about prospective clients.  No matter how they are dressed or what they appear to be shopping for, you need to treat each person like a million dollar client because they could be.   What is the Lifetime Potential for a client to YOU?  Do you know?  For a Realtor it can be thousands and in some cases hundred of thousands of dollars in commission.  For a Dentist, it can mean a new car or a house, for a clothing store who really treats a customer like someone special, $3000 a year for as long as they LIVE…

My husband tells the story of he and his previous wife, car shopping on a weekend.  They were both professionals dressed in shorts and tee shirts out on a Saturday, kicking tires.  The three Salesmen sat in the showroom and never even walked out to even greet them.  They left that Dealership and went across town and bought a Lincoln even though they really wanted the car at the original dealership.  He called the Sales Manager at the original store and told him what happened.  The Mgr asked him to come to their weekly Sales meeting the next day as his guest.  So Gary arrived at 8 AM in his suit and tie and the Manager asked if any of his people would like to sell him a car.  They all were jumping up and down for the chance…  The Manager said “Well you missed your opportunity!!!”  Gary was then asked to relate the story.  You could have heard a pin drop.

It is the “Pretty Woman” story all over again.  I used to use that shopping scene often when training employees in my retail stores.  YOU Networkers need to watch that clip as well.  The mousy guy in the corner eating the hors d’eurves like he hasn’t seen food for a week… could be the purchasing agent for your product.  Be friendly TO EVERYONE!  Let them talk first and longest, be like Benjamin Disraeli and make everyone you meet feel like they are the most intelligent person in the room.   You will learn quickly what Appreciation Marketing is all about.  People like being APPRECIATED and respond to the people who treat them with respect.

In this tough economic climate when everyone is vying for business!!! You can’t afford to leave any money on the table or in their pockets.  It takes them longer to dig in to spend it so you had better be ready and willing to work for it!

If you do what you have always done, you will get what you always got!

There is no amount of wisdom that rings any truer than those words.  If you have something that is working for you… KEEP it up.  However, if you are not getting stellar results and you keep plodding along… you will keep plodding along!

Shake up your day,  start experimenting with some of the easy but often the most effective things you can do…

  1. NEVER eat alone!  Relationships build business!  Take someone to lunch and pick their brain on how you can help them do more business.  Guess what, they will want to help you do the same too.
  2. Write an article or Post on a Blog something that adds credibility and establishes you as an expert.  Today, free access to the internet has elevated many people who can be articulate and helped them position themselves in a very positive light…  Why not you?
  3. Take a different path.  Even if it is just driving home via a different route, you may experience an Aha moment by seeing how others are doing business.  There is nothing new under the sun just different ways to apply an idea.  What works for a dentist may work for you!
  4. Laugh out Loud… It is surprising how important a good laugh can be to your creative juices.  It is important to have perspective if you want to be excited and exciting.  People BUY enthusiasm.  Do you have any?
  5. Read a book… there are books everywhere, some for free, some for a small charge, some available online… even ones you can listen to on your I-Pod or MP3.  Invest your time in something that will get you some mileage.  My friend Crystal Lorenzetti co-wrote a book…

Attracting Success

I have been doing some study lately on the Law of Attraction.  It really is nothing new…  You bring into your life what you focus on.  If you live in the world of nay sayers and negative Nellies… that attitude rubs off on YOU!  The words we speak to ourselves and others either ignites passion or douses the flames.  If you are not feeding the fire with positive every day, you can become overwhelmed by the constant barrage of Can’t, Won’t, Don’t, But, IF,and NEVER!

I subscribe to E-zines and blogs by people who stimulate my mind and heart with successful tactics, fresh ideas and positive fuel for the journey.  There is no replacement for this and just like air, food and sleep… we need it everyday!  You cannot expect a Motivational Seminar once a year to keep you inspired.  I listen to CD’s in my car instead of the radio which is full of negative news.  I read Success oriented books and magazines instead of the newspaper for the same reason.  I can keep up with current events on the internet when I want to catch up.  If I can do something about a situation that I have interest in… I know how to get the info.  Don’t let yourself get dragged into the MUD!  Rise above the fray and keep your focus on the prize.  Find someone who can mentor you… whether that is Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Chris Widener, T Harv Ecker or John Maxwell just to name a few of my favorites or your favorites.  Subscribe to Success Magazine or at least check them out on-line.

To be more “Attractive”, whether that is for customers, business, friends or family… you wash up and put on some new duds…

Easy to Do

I have a choice in all things.  Most of the stuff in my life is “easy” to do or “easy” not to do.  I can be kind and thoughtful or choose to focus on myself.
I can cheat on my taxes or take the maximum fair deductions and no more.
I can make choices at a meal, saying one burger or dessert won’t kill me but ONE a day will result in 20 extra pounds.
I can pick up the phone and make a business call or procrastinate, finding something else “urgent” that must be done.
I have choices in all things. Those “easy” choices are like little drops of water frozen, that bring down mountains over time.
Today, I make the “easy” choice to be more effective.   When I plan to succeed, I elimate the wrong choices.  I map out a strategy for success and then the poor options are off the table.  I “Just Do IT”.

Gimme an N, Gimme an E…

What’s that spell?  NETWORK

I have become a cheerleader for NETWORKING!  Making our way in a tough economic climate, having an active and healthy NetWork spells survival.

I have joined BNI, the professional and international organization begun by Ivan Misner.  It is amazing what a truly committed group of 20-25 professionals can do to help one another when the chips are down.  And the economy of 2009 qualifies.  The training that is available, the focus that is placed on assisting each member to understand how referrals can and should work is truly an awesome sight to behold.   If you follow the guidelines,  business growth is not only possible but likely.

In a word “TODAY!” can be a real motivational icon. I have had bosses say that one word and a flurry of activity ensued. People scurried to accomplish something that may have been overlooked or mismanaged. If you are not self-motivating type maybe you need somebody to utter that to get you off the dime. Let me be that kick in the pants for you Entrepreneurs. No more “READY; SET, Set, set, set…. TODAY… GO! Action is the only thing that accomplishes anything. Selling something starts a chain reaction in your world. Get the gears moving and take a step. If the prospect says NO, you won’t die. You will learn something and because you are a quick study!!! The next time, you will be better. Make a difference to your business… TODAY!
